Jade Garden, Ikeja

Jade Garden (翡翠楼)

60, Isaac John Street GRA, Ikeja

This has got to be the grandest chinese restaurant in Lagos. Not to be confused with Jade Palace (翠蝶) in Adeola Odeku street VI.

Hours: Open for lunch until late.

Venue : 5 star

Food : 5 star

Price: 2 star

Value : 2 star

Located off the busy Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, its easily accessable. Ample parking within its gated compound.

Out of the car and walk towards the grand red big door, as i was about to push the doors open, was pleasantly surprised that they opened by themselves. I thought this was some kind of sensor working but when i walked in, saw a waiter pulling them open. But how did he see i was walking in?? still a mystery to me.

Walked in and greeted by a huge longue with cable TV , tasteful deco and some fine chinese art. the main dining area was cordoned off by a wooden divider crafted in chinese teak wood. The main dining area is spacious and decorated with chinese art that fill the walls of this big room. Upstairs there are more rooms for private functions.

Here you can expect great service and fine food. From Dim Sum to abalone to shark fin soup.
Cantonese fare is the order of teh day as this is the sister company of Pearl Garden. In fact, teh managers swithc outlets every few weeks, you will be greeted with familiar faces in both the outlets.
On weekends, they serve Dim Sum buffet too at N3500, but i could have sweared that teh portions at Pearl's are much bigger.
Sample all the fine dining and remember to order desserts to complement the whole meal.
Per pax expect to pay N5k for normal dishes and up to N10k for exotic fine food.

( one of the best chinese restaurants in VI)

Hours: Open for lunch until late.

Located near Church Gate, its convenient to get to but sometimes if your are coming through Ozumba Mbadiwe the traffic could be a major turn off.

I rate this a one of the best cantonese reataurant in VI, from the spacious layout , high ceilings and quality food. BU one bad thing is they only offer ala carte Dim Sum on weekends. The plus points are, you order what you like and order as you finish , so taht you can take you own sweet time and pace to enjoy the hot tea and the company of friends.

The barbequed meat buns (叉烧包)are a must try with the usual prawn dumpling (虾胶)and steamed sheet rice noodles. (猪肠粉)

Per pax about N4k to N5k.

Located in the heart of VI near the famous Bar Beach. You can get to this place using the bar beach road or using Olosa Street which is leading to Eko Hotel (mind you this is a one way street, you canNOT enter from the main rd infront of Eko Hotel). If you just cant find it, just ask for DSTV office.

There are ample parking here with good security. The deco is modern with lots of chinese influences. Here the noise levels tend to be a bit higher like any typical restaurant in Hong Kong. Upstairs there are rooms for private parties. There are only 2 , so book early to avoid dissapointment.

Food is typical Cantonese fare as the operators are from Hong Kong. Come for the weekend Dim Sum buffet. It really hearty and good. A mixed variety of dumplings, congee, pastries and really good cripsy deep fried flour sticks, the best i have had in Lagos. There are about 8 different dishes and at N3500 its the best value Dim Sum buffet among the high end chinese restaurants here. Items on the buffet menu changes every 3 to 4 weeks to keep customers coming back.

For ala carte, here the food is fantastic but not very affordable at around N4k to N5k per pax.

I love the portions here as they tend not to be overly excessive. The managers are from hong kong and they will personally remember each customers' likes and dislikes.

Higly recommended if you are enteratining guests.

Another good location with loads of parking space, but can get really crowded. Lots of corporate dinners are held here. If you are on Ozumba Mbadiwe road, turn at the civic centre into Adetokunbo Ademola . While heading towrds the Zenith bank roundabout, take the first left turn into Bishop Abotade Cole street. Saipan is housed in Mega Plaza just after Prime Chinese Restaurant.

Take the lift to 3rd floor and enter the wooden doors, you will be greeted with a longue area which is packed on Thursday night when the band plays. Use the stairs to take you up to the dinning area.

Here the deco is modern with hints of chinese knick knacks. There are private rooms for functions. This is run by Hong Kong operator and specialises in Cantonese Cuisine. The cantonese love dimsum, and you can get buffet dimsum here on weekends for N3500 per pax.

I always like to come here when i get home sick and crave for the taste of home cooked meal and of course dimsum on Sunday to catch up with friends.

Overall, its considered a more expensive place to get chinese food in Lagos.

This is strategically located on the busy awolowo road. If your are coming from the roundabout near Falomo , you will pass Goodies and then reach teh only Mobil refilling station. It just opposite the Mobil station. Park infront of the restaurant. The facade looks like a stately chinese home. Inside the deco is authentic chinese and the ambience, fantastic.

Here , the chinese staff are english speaking and their menu is translated in English as well. Good service, and very attentive waiters. There is a VIP section upstairs for private parties or events.

They specialise in Hunan (香), Sze Chuan (川) and Yue (粤)cuisine and yes tehy have steam boat as well on ala carte menu but you will have to order a few hours in advance.
Hunan and Sze chuan dishes are colorful and spicy. exciting flavors to tickle your senses. During hot Lagos days you will apprecate the offering of cold dishes - cold cuts and appetisers.

Sze Chuan dishes that i particularly like :
a) Chicken in draft beer
b) Fish slice in Szechuan hot Soup
c) Diced chicken fried with dried chili

to accompany the above and balance things up:
a) steamed chinese cabbage with vermicelli
b) deep fried spare ribs with garlic
c) Mixed mushroom soup

Prices are reasonabe for quality chinese food in Lagos. Per pax , be prepared to pay about N4000.

From the address it may mislead you to think that it a classy chinese restaurant located inside a hotel but its actually a small single storey air-conditioned outlet with less than 10 tables of various sizes. Location is easy to find as its near the round about at the end of Opebi street. There is ample parking in the courtyard.

Manned by non english speaking chinese, so if you plan to go there please bring along a friend who understand & speak mandarin.

They specialise in Steam Boat and North Eastern (东北)cuisine. You can eat steam boat in quite a few chinese restaurant in Lagos but few offer an "all u can eat" buffet. And at N3000 per head its quite good value.

You will get 2 types of soup (spicy /normal) to cook the raw ingredients supplied. The usual sliced beef / mutton, prawns, vegetables, tripe too squid and tou-fu .

Forteh dip, you are given sesame seed paste , msg, salt, chili oil , fermented bean curd, chopped green oinions, chopped garlic etc. Mix according to your own preferrence. Dip the cooked ingredients and chomp away.
